Overview of Tiered Behavior Support *

This session is intended for educators interested in exploring the basic components of tiered behavioral supports. The group will discuss how a continuum of behavioral supports exists within SRBI. Participants will reflect on the connection between the systems of SRBI (i.e., systems of instruction, assessment, and decision making) and current practice within their school or district.

Progress Monitoring for Student Success *

What common learning needs do students have related to the Common Core State Standards? What instructional strategies has your school identified to better meet these needs? What challenges in practice has your school been able to resolve? These interrelated questions ultimately converge on the central purpose of effective progress monitoring to advance teaching and student learning in schools, PreK-12. Participants in this session will develop a new understanding of the technical and adaptive aspects of progress monitoring and learn about supporting materials and tools for practitioners.

SRBI and English Learners *

This session is intended for administrators and educators who are interested in understanding the relationship between Connecticut’s SRBI framework and services for English learners. Participants will learn best practices to consider in the areas of assessment, instruction, and decision-making.

SRBI and Math (K-5)

Teachers are tasked with helping every student achieve mastery of the Connecticut Core Standards (CCS) for Mathematics. How can SRBI be utilized to meet this goal? In this session, discussion will center around identification of CCS math skills gaps and the development of effective intervention procedures to address these gaps. Participants will be invited to share their experiences, and a list of relevant resources will be shared.

SRBI and Math (6-12)

The implementation of an effective SRBI program can be daunting in secondary math, which is more specialized than math on the K-5 level. This session will address the challenges of SRBI implementation at the secondary level, including: using/developing effective assessments; ensuring high-quality core math instruction; early identification of students’ skills gaps; and the need for administrative support. Participants will be invited to share their experiences, and a list of relevant resources will be shared.

Tier 1 Instructional Planning *

Participants in this session will address trends in student learning data by exploring instructional approaches related to flexible grouping and formative assessment. Educators also will learn practices that actively engage students in new learning and ways to check for understanding during the learning experience.

Using Scheduling and All Staff to Effectively Support Students *

The two most valuable resources in schools are people and time. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how schools can efficiently and effectively use these resources to positively impact student learning. Facilitators will share self-assessment and planning tools as well as models of effective practice for scheduling and staffing teachers, paraeducators, and other service providers.

SRBI and Early Childhood

Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) is fundamentally different on the early childhood level than it is in the school setting for older children. This professional development opportunity is tailored specifically to staff members from public or private early childhood programs who want to learn more about SRBI. We will be discussing assessment, instructional, and progress monitoring practices.

Some breakout sessions will include Connecticut schools who will share their successes and challenges in these topical areas.
